Founder and CEO

Stefano is part of the founders of Dagon and is CEO of the business with a strong presence on the ground and hands-on involvement with the portfolio companies and new business development.
Stefano has been an investor since 2009 in frontier markets with experience gained on the ground in Sierra Leone, Dubai and Singapore and most recently Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa. Prior to investing directly in 2009, Stefano matured about 5 years of expertise in bulge bracket investment banking and strategy consulting.
Prior experience in sub-Saharan Africa was gained as Founding Partner at Alternative Investments Africa, a Mauritian-domiciled investment vehicle with focus on Zimbabwe and Zambia. Stefano left the venture to focus on more fundamental and active management investing in June 2013.
Between 2009 and 2011, Stefano was engaged in green-field project financing in Sierra Leone in the telecommunication sector and in Dubai/Singapore in the food marketing sector.
Before becoming an entrepreneur, Stefano was in investment banking at Merrill Lynch in London, covering some of the most important transactions in the Energy & Power space between 2007 and 2010, especially in Italy. Key transactions Stefano has been directly involved in include the break-up of Endesa Italia, the acquisition of Enel Rete Gas by F2i/Axa and the pre-IPO of Enel Green Power.
Prior to investment banking, Stefano was a strategy and marketing consultant at Arthur D. Little, in Rome and Milan. He advised most Italian banks on operations improvement, European carmakers on innovative marketing strategies, a leading Italian pharmaceutical company on an M&A transaction and other leading companies across industries on new strategic plans.
Stefano holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration awarded magna cum laude from John Cabot University and a first class honors degree from the University of Wales. Stefano is an approved professional by the FCA (UK Financial Conduct Authority).
